Born in Rhode Island in 1773, Frances Slocum (Ma-con-a-qua) moved as a child to Pennsylvania where she was captured by Delaware Indians and brought to Indiana. She was raised by Miami Indians and married in the tribe. She made numerous contributions to Indian/white relations and the development of the Northwest Territory, and was able to influence peaceful relations between the government and Indians. She died in 1847 and was buried in Wabash County, Indiana. From the description of ...
